There were 67 Covid-related fatalities last week in Meghalaya, out of which 58 (86.57 percent) were among the unvaccinated.
That means that for every one death among the vaccinated there were also six who died who had yet to get a jab of Covishield.
Last Monday the Health Department began releasing a daily breakdown of whether the victims of Covid were vaccinated or not. However, its data does not indicate whether those who count as vaccinated had received one dose or two or both. It also does not give a breakdown by district.
Nevertheless, the data does reinforce the government’s message that vaccination is crucial to ending the awful Covid death toll in the state, which is now up to 1,163 of which 1,013 have been reported since April 1.
Vaccination numbers have also been a little low in the first week of August compared to the same period in July; from August 1 to 7 the average doses of vaccines administered in Meghalaya was 8,822 per day while from July 1 to 7 the average was 9,745.
