The Garo Hills unit of the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association are still yet to get their demands met by the state government and today met the government’s education adviser, former MLA Himalaya Shangpliang.
The 4th teachers want regularisation of 1,521 of their members, salaries at par with teachers in ad hoc upper primary schools and a 5 percent annual increment. The teachers are currently receiving Rs 18,000 per month, which, according to them, is not enough to live on.
The delegation of teachers requested Shangpliang to take up this matter with the Chief Minister and Education Minister, as well as the State Education Commission.
