In its continued drive against illicit liquor, the Excise Department staff of East Khasi Hills conducted raids in restaurants and stalls in the town and its outskirts where 60 cases were uncovered in January wherein 249.48 litres of indigenous liquor and 204.17 litres of IMFL were seized.
Forty-five people were arrested in connection with these cases under the Excise Act, a press release informed today. This is a greater than average number of cases and arrests made in any given month.
The cases are under different stages of investigation/prosecution.
