Nongpoh, Oct 13: In an outpouring of grief and outrage, thousands of people took to the streets today to condemn the brutal killing last week of a 13-year-old girl in Ri-Bhoi, a tragic incident that has shocked the entire community.
A total of 42 villages participated in the protest march, with people from all walks of life – including school students, youths, parents, community leaders and representatives of social organisations – joining hands to voice their anger and demand justice for the young victim.
The girl went missing on Wednesday morning from Kalapangti village and her body was found later that evening. The suspect was arrested on Saturday and has reportedly confessed to the crime.
Members of pressure groups attended the rally and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrator.
Later in the evening, a candlelight vigil was held to offer special prayers for the young girl’s soul.
