Four youth were felicitated by East Garo Hills district police today for rescuing accident victims in Nongchram recently.
The four youth, Sengrik D Sangma, Nilbath D Sangma, Walgrik M Momin and Jinjas D Marak rescued as many as 16 survivors from the accident site at Ringdi River on the fateful night when an MTC bus plunged into the river on September 29.
Being first responders, they not only saved those that were alive but even carried them to safety before alerting authorities for help.
“The work done by them is worthy of praise. We salute them and wish them all the success in life,” the district police said in its social media page.
The accident saw the death of 8 persons, including the drivers after the MTC bus plunged more than 60 feet into the water below. The impact of the accident was such that nearby houses were alerted by the noise.
