Three pickup trucks loaded with coal were seized by police after two residents alerted about their presence while they were on their way to Dainadubi in North Garo Hills.
The three pickup trucks were parked by the side of the road, to be transported, apparently through the cover of night.
The residents not only informed the police on the matter of the vehicles carrying coal but also lodged an FIR. Police in East Garo Hills under Rongmil (Operations Group Centre) OGC seized the three vehicles.
As per the FIR filed at the Rongjeng police station, the complainant, along with a friend were on their way to North Garo Hills when they saw the three vehicles near the village of Wagkok close to the district’s border with North Garo Hills.
The incident took place at about 4:30 pm yesterday, with the FIR also being filed the same evening.
“We promptly informed the Rongmil OGC and the police response was immediate and the 3 vehicles were seized. We later came to know that the coal was of an unknown origin,” said the complainant in the FIR.
Seeking a full investigation into the matter, the complainant stated that he was sure that such acts were being undertaken randomly or the coal trucks could have been so bold to try and transport coal illegally and that too during the day.
“The matter needs to be investigated thoroughly and those involved in the illegal coal transport as well as the vehicle owners need to be acted upon as per law,” asserted the complainant, whose identity is being protected.
