One Shanlang Nongrum was sentenced to 25 years in a POCSO case by the M.K Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO, here on March 3.
Nongrum was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This section relates to aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a child. He received punishment of rigorous imprisonment of 25 years and a fine of Rs 50,000.
The convicted felon also received another seven-year sentence under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. This section deals with criminal intimidation.
Details of the case were not revealed. The case was investigated by WPSI L Kharjana of the DEF, who is now posted in Lumdiengjri police station here.
The case lodged at Diengpasoh police station was investigated by WP/Si. L. Kharjana and presently posted in Lumdiengjri Police Station, Shillong.
