Simmering discontent has reportedly erupted in the National People’s Party (NPP) in Sutnga-Saipung constituency leading to the resignation of party leaders and workers.
At least 23 leaders led by NPP, East Jaiñtia Hills district President Dr JW Dkhar, General Secretary Monlang Ladong, Assistant Secretary Kormon Bamon, NPYF district President Grimlang Dkhar, Vice President Kmai Tangliang, General Secretary Aibor Sukhlain and 18 members decided to quit the party.
According to the district president, their resignation was due to “misunderstandings” with the party candidate, Santa Mary Shylla.
Dkhar however said the party workers are not against her candidature to contest the Assembly elections.
“We don’t have any misunderstanding with the party leaders in Khliehriat constituency except with the party candidate,” NPYF district president added. He said more members will quit the party in the coming days.
