In memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom, a two minutes silence will be observed at 11am on January 30.
The day is significant as it was on this day in 1948 that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
A press release from the state government today laid out the procedure to mark the occasion.
Wherever feasible, the commencement and termination of the two minutes silence will be indicated by the sound of sirens or Army guns.
Sirens will be sounded from 10:59am until 11am and, after two minutes, all clear sirens should again be sounded from 11:02am until 11:03am.
This procedure may be adopted where sirens exist. On hearing the signals all persons should stand still and observe the silence. At places where no signal systems are available, suitable instructions will be issued to all concerned for observing the silence for two minutes at 11am.
All India Radio will also stop broadcasting and traffic on the road should come to a standstill for two minutes.
