Shillong, May 10: Two Meghalaya locals were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) with Bangladeshi currency of 3.40 lakh taka, equivalent to around Rs 2.42 lakh.
The incident occurred yesterday when BSF personnel caught the pair near the international border in East Khasi Hills.
Acting on a specific tip-off, troops of the BSF’s 4th Battalion conducted a special operation around Nayabazar border outpost. During the operation, BSF troops noticed the suspicious movement of two Indian nationals along the international border. Upon conducting a search, the BSF recovered a bag containing the Bangladeshi currency in denominations of 500 taka and the two men were then taken into custody.
During preliminary interrogation, the duo revealed their names to be Balanus Mawroh of Nongjri Wahsier and Enterness Khongsni of Nongjritluh. The Bangladeshi money was meant to facilitate cross-border illegal activities, a BSF release said today.
The apprehended persons and seized currency were handed over to Pynursla police station for further legal action.
