Mawkyrwat, Dec 5: The Special Judge (POCSO), South West Khasi Hills convicted two persons in separate cases of sexual assaults on children and awarded them rigorous imprisonment and fine.
The court convicted Sushanto Hajong and Albad Kharlyngdoh on November 26.
Hajong of Photkroh village was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa said the FIR in the case was lodged on September 28, 2019 and chargesheeted on December 31, 2019.
The convict had sexually assaulted a 15-year-old minor and coerced the survivor into undergoing an abortion.
In the verdict, the court sentenced Hajong to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of 15,000. In case of non-payment of fine, he will undergo simple imprisonment of two months.
In another case, one Albad Kharlyngdoh of Domjyrti village was sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment for rape on a minor.
Jyrwa said a FIR in the case was lodged on October 30, 2022 by the mother of the child, who said that Ailad, who is her husband, had raped her daughter since 2017 when she was 10 years old.
He said the case was charge-sheeted November 23, 2022.
The convict will also have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. Failure to pay the fine, the convict will have to undergo simple imprisonment of two months.
“These convictions stand as a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Investigating Officer and the unwavering pursuit of justice for the victim,” the SP said.
