The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized 25,000 kgs of sugar before smugglers could transport it over the international border into Bangladesh.
The BSF also arrested two suspected smugglers in an operation carried out yesterday by its 172 Battalion.
According to a press release, the BSF identified and intercepted a vehicle loaded with the sugar coming from Kalain under the Cachar district of Assam and heading towards Kuliang area in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The BSF said the driver and co- driver failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar.
The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to the concerned custom office for further legal action.
