Those in the 15 to 29 age group make up the largest share of active Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya, figures from the government have revealed.
The Health Department data was presented to the media at an interactive meeting today. The figures were updated as of yesterday.
Of the 3,925 active Covid infections in the state as of yesterday, 1,369 were among those in the 15-29 bracket, which is just under 35 percent. Another 1,094 (28 percent) were in the 30-44 age group and a further 695 (18 percent) are below 15 years old.
Sixty-two percent of active cases are asymptomatic, with the remaining 38 percent experiencing mild, moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
The positivity rate, i.e., the proportion of positive Covid tests results, continues to remain a little high, at 9.61 percent for the period between July 1 and 14. East Khasi Hills has the highest positivity rate of 11.63 percent and East Jaiñtia Hills the lowest at 3.90 percent.
Addressing the participants, Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, highlighted the various awareness initiatives undertaken by the government through the State Covid-19 Communication Coordination Unit in informing and educating the public on different aspects relating to the pandemic.
She further informed that the main objective of the programme was to discuss and deliberate on the different ways and means how the government and the press fraternity could work together for effective and accurate dissemination of information to the public.
