Jowai, Oct 13: The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Jowai has sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for rape of a minor.
Brightstarmi Nangbah of Laskein village has been convicted for the offence under Section 3(a)/4 of the POCSO Act that deals with aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a minor.
The survivor was 14-years old at the time of the offence. According to police, a FIR was lodged at Jowai Police Station on November 4, 2019 which stated that the accused had been sexually abusing the girl since September 2018 and had threatened her to remain silent.
The case was investigated and charge sheeted by WPSI I. Kharpran.
In its verdict on October 6, 2025, the court said the convict has to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000. In default of payment he shall undergo a further six months of imprisonment.
