Ten persons were fined by police for smoking at public places.
A fine of Rs 200 was realized on spot from each person who were found smoking in Police Bazaar area during a drive carried out by police from the Sadar Police Station since yesterday and today.
The drive was carried out to enforce the provisions laid down under the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act (COPTA), 2003, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said.
