Shillong, Dec 2: The State-level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (YEP), 2025 is underway at the Convocation Hall, NEHU Campus here.
A large number of youths have gathered to connect, share stories, and express themselves through arts, sports, innovation, science, and technology.
On the opening day, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma engaged the youth with a presentation on state government initiatives, including skilling, hospitality training, entrepreneurship, the DREAM program, CM-MGMP, YESS Meghalaya, CM Elevate, PRIME, sports, and preparations for the National Games, alongside developmental projects in New Shillong Township.
“The idea is to keep our youth engaged and busy through these transformational programs. Once this phase concludes, we’ll reap the benefits of the foundations laid, leading to growth and exponential progress in the days to come,” he said.
On international exposure, Sangma announced 48 participants will be selected for a trip to the Philippines and Malaysia, and about 500 will represent Meghalaya at the national level.
Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Wailadmiki Shylla added, “Meghalaya is the only state with a youth engagement program at the block level. We want you to explore, try new things, and take this opportunity to participate in national and Northeast youth festivals, with chances for international exposure.”
Secretary Isawanda Laloo highlighted the novelty of block-level competitions, saying, “You’ve made it here after block, district, and state levels—now spread your wings, represent the state, and experience diverse cultures abroad.”
Participants Trewasara Hadem (2023 Indonesia trip) and Jason Wahlang (2025 Vietnam trip) shared fond experiences of cultural exchanges and interactions.
The CM-YEP celebrates young talent, empowers youth through cultural exposure, leadership, innovation, and pride in folk traditions, aiming to make them state ambassadors. It includes solo and group competitions in poetry, storytelling, painting, and more, nurturing confidence and global outreach.
The revamped program spans 56 blocks and 1 Administrative Headquarter, helping youth overcome stage fright and showcase their best in sports, music, and innovation. It will run till December 5.
