Synshar Khymdeit, whose name has been circulated in the media of late as a member of the banned Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today denied that he was a member of the militant group.
Khymdeit addressed a press conference today where he claimed that his name has been misused by miscreants to demand ransoms in the name of the HNLC. Even the outfit has denied that Khymdeit is a member.
“I came here to clarify that someone has been misusing my name to claim that I have been demanding ransom from people in the name of the HNLC, which is not true,” he told reporters.
He said that he has no clue who has done this but the moment he learned about it from newspapers he reported the matter to the police.
“I’m not in any way connected with the HNLC or Julius Kitbok Dorphang (a former HNLC leader) or any pressure groups and I also don’t know for what reasons someone misused my name like this,” Khymdeit said, while his brother, who was also present, said that such a thing has endangered the young man’s life by tying him to the proscribed rebel group.
