The District Legal Services Authority South Garo Hills, Baghmara observed the World Consumer Rights Day cum Awareness Programme on Social Issues at Jongkol Baptist Church Hall yesterday.
Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence counsel Advocate Alme D Sangma in her speech, informed the gathering about the need to create awareness of Consumer Rights and how people can benefit by knowing their rights in their day-to-day lives.
She also enlightened the people on how improper use of mobile phones and the internet can lead to cyber crimes and many other related problems.
The program was attended by members from Jongkol Baptist Church Women Ministry, Aura Self-Help Group members, and others present include Silkal Marak, Jerry S Marak ( PLV), Nikjrang A Sangma( Childline Unit Baghmara), and Manoj Hajong Social Worker ICPS.
The program was organized to generate awareness about consumer rights, educate individuals’ understanding of their legal protections, enable them to make informed decisions, avoid exploitation, and encourage them to raise their voices against any malpractices, etc.
