The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has sought a report from Laban police on the case wherein a woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband.
“Though the woman has not filed a complaint with the commission in relation to this case, the commission has asked for the police report from the concerned police station and is awaiting for the report before taking other course of interventions,” MSCW said in a press statement issued today.
“At this point, we strongly feel that the rule of law must prevail. The law applies to all irrespective of their social status,” the commission further stated.
The commission has met with the victim, her daughter and the authorities from Civil Hospital.
It may be mentioned that a local court here had recently remanded Shillong-based businessman Suresh P. Singh to seven days in police custody for allegedly stabbing his wife Poonam Singh.
Even the daughter of the businessman had told media persons recently that her father would often abuse her mother.
Poonam had on October 31 lodged a first information report (FIR) in the Laban police station against her husband for stabbing her after a heated argument in their residence.
Poonam has been rushed to the Shillong Civil Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
There were allegations that police tried to go slow on the case since the businessman is very influential and had connections with the high and mighty.
