Five pressure groups in Garo Hills have sent a joint letter to the East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police to complain of alleged failings by two female police officers in a case of sexual assault against two teenage girls.
The complaint refers to a case from last week when two minor girls were allegedly assaulted by four men.
The pressure groups claim that Krusitha G Momin, the officer in charge of Williamnagar women’s police station, and Jansitha S Marak, a Sub-Inspector at Rongjeng women’s police station, failed to carry out their duties in relation to the case and even went as far as applying pressure on the families of the victims to drop the case.
While Momin is accused of falsely informing the families that a medical examination had been carried out on the girls when it had not, Marak is said to have “forcefully told the victims’ parents to withdraw the case” and detained the two victims for a whole day “without any sustenance”.
The parents were supposedly told that the girls were also at fault and failure to compromise with the male suspects would affect the girls as well.
The pressure groups want legal action taken against Momin and Marak, fearing that without which such acts could be repeated.
