A 52-year-old woman died after being electrocuted in a jungle at Umran Dairy in Ri-Bhoi yesterday, another case of life lost due to poor maintenance or negligence.
The woman, Edwina Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi, and her daughter had gone to the forest to gather vegetables but stepped on a high tension line that was lying on the ground.
Her daughter, Rimonlang, raised the alarm among other villagers but Edwina had succumbed to her injuries, which, according to photographs, included severe burns to much of her body.
The autopsy was carried out at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
The headman of Umran Dairy, Lambor Mukhim Bina, has demanded that the Power Department avoid such horrible incidents in future and clear the high tension wires from the jungle that surrounds Umran Dairy.
