Nongpoh’s lack of a proper drainage system was made all too apparent today after a spell of heavy rain left parts of the Ri-Bhoi district headquarters flooded.
The heavy rain lasted over three hours and the shops and streets were flooded, triggering problems for pedestrians and vehicles.
A frequent problem for the town, the propensity to flood is exacerbated by the lack of drains on the side of the highways.
The issue has often been raised with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) but with little consequence.
