Leaders, members and supporters of the Trinamool Congress in Umroi have parted ways with the party and formed a new platform to prepare for the upcoming district council elections.
Named Umroi Constituency Progressive Forum (UCPF) with Pynskhemlang Sohtun as president, the platform aims to continue to serve the people of Umroi constituency.
Former MLA George B Lyngdoh, who was defeated in the 2023 assembly elections from the TMC after quitting the Congress, told reporters that the decision to form the UCPF was taken after extensive consultations with his supporters, who decided to collectively exit from the party.
The forum also announced the formation of an election committee responsible for reviewing and finalising candidatures for the MDC elections.
