The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) said today that it is willing to work with the A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) for the bifurcation of Meghalaya into separate Khasi-Jaiñtia and Garo states.
AHAM had hit out at the other pressure group last week over HITO’s demand for Khasi-Jaiñtia admissions to the College of Teacher Education in Rongkhon, Tura. AHAM said that such a demand would open a Pandora’s Box as it could also question as to whether Garos are being admitted to college in Shillong and Jowai and the Shillong campus of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Today, HITO pointed out to AHAM that there is no “CTE, B.Ed or PGT college in Jowai or Shillong. NEHU is also a central university and has its own admission criteria.”
The admission criteria in the majority of the colleges in the state are based on merit list (percentage of marks) but the admission to the professional course at the CTE Tura is very unique, HITO president Donbok Dkhar added.
