Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has said that the party will reply to every election-related complaint it receives.
Basaiawmoit was reacting to the two show cause notices served yesterday by the Election Commission to the VPP based on complaints that it had disrupted meetings of other parties.
Speaking at a rally held in Mawpat yesterday evening, the VPP chief said that the party does not have time to provoke the public. What the VPP has been accused of by others is also what the party has faced at its own public meetings, with slogans shouted in support of other political parties.
This does not mean, however, Basaiawmoit said, that such individuals should be beaten up. Due to their own arrogance, some political parties think that they can dictate to the public, he added.
“During election time when they are wooing the voters they dare to ask to arrest the people. This is political arrogance by those in power,” he said.
Therefore, Basaiawmoit cautioned that it is the citizens who have elected them to serve for five years. Witnessing the current political scenario, he claimed that the public are in a hurry for April 19 (polling day in Meghalaya) and June 4 (counting day) to come so that they can bring in political change.
