Khliehriat, Jun 30: Even as the State government has allowed reopening of weekly markets since yesterday, the Sutnga Elaka in East Jaiñtia Hills district has decided not to reopen its market due to fears of the virus.
In a statement issued today, secretary of the Elaka, Mekithi Sutnga said that since there is an increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the State, the village has decided not to go ahead with reopening weekly market in the area.
He also urged residents to cooperate with the Elaka in its decision to combat the spread of the virus and for the safety of all residents.
Two unknown dead bodies recovered

Shillong, Jun 30: A person was found hanging at Happy Valley in the Assam Regimental Centre’s demolition quarter here today.
Police said the identity of the man is unknown. His body was recovered on June 24.
The person was wearing a grey colour sweater, grey colour pant, blue colour chappal, black jacket and blue cap with a logo, ‘Hang over.’
Another male dead body aged about 45 years was also recovered from the bus stop of the Cantonment Board, Boucher Road here on May 17.
Both the bodies have been kept at the Shillong Civil Hospital morgue for identification.
Illicit liquor seized

Shillong, Jun 30: In its continued drive against illicit liquor, the Excise staff of East Khasi Hills District conducted raids in the restaurants, stalls in Shillong city and its outskirts where during the month of March they detected 40 cases with a seizure of 1445.500 litres of illicit liquor and 54.425 litres of IMFL. In this connection, 35 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
