A water tank which was inaugurated by then PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar in 2022 is yet to function properly.
The water tank is located at Meïawan locality of Nonglang village in South West Khasi Hills.
According to local villagers, the area faces acute water shortages due to the failure of the water tank to feed potable water to residents.
“The water tank was inaugurated by Tongkhar in 2022 when he was PHE minister but till today our locality is experiencing the problem of water scarcity,” a villager said.
According to the villagers, the pipeline laid in the area under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is yet to become functional as there is no water in the pipes.
They also urged the officials of PHE Mawkyrwat Division to conduct surprise inspection about the water distribution system in the area in order to find out the truth and for necessary rectification so that the problem can be solved.
