Wapung Higher Secondary School emerged as the Overall Champion Team of the District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2025 for East Jaintia Hills.
The school won 25 medals (Gold-9, Silver-7 and Bronze-9).
Sham Sham Secondary School and Senraij Branch Upper Primary School, Mukhaialong were champions of the Under-14 Boys and Under-14 Girls categories respectively. The champion award for the Under-16 Boys and Under-16 Girls category went to Wapung Higher Secondary School and Sham Sham Secondary School respectively while Seinjait Tuber Higher Secondary School was adjudged champion in the Under-18 Boys Category San Shnong Secondary School was the champion in the Girls Category.
Kampher Dkhar of Sham Sham Secondary School was adjudged Best Male Athlete while Useful Kyndait of Seinraj Branch Upper Primary School, Mukhaialong was adjudged Best Female Athlete in the Under-14 Category.
In the Under-16 Category, Highbornson Muksor of Khliehriat Presbyterian Secondary School and Naphishwa Dkhar of Seinjait Tuber Higher Secondary School were adjudged Best Male and Best Female athletes respectively.
Ribait Bang and Budka Bang of Seinjait Tuber Higher Secondary School emerged as the Best Male and Best Female Athletes in the Under-18 Category.
The winners of different events will be representing East Jaintia Hills District at the State Level Inter School Athletics Meet scheduled to be held soon.
Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi who attended the closing ceremony called upon those who failed to win medals to not be disheartened but to come back stronger next year in order to emerge victorious.
Awasthi also dwelt at length on the different interventions aimed at promoting the sports ecosystem in the district in particular and Meghalaya and the National Games scheduled to be held in Meghalaya in 2027. He said that the games provide a perfect opportunity to athletes of the district to showcase their sporting calibre and appealed to all stakeholders including coaches, sports associations, etc to extend all possible support to the athletes in their endeavour to excel in their respective disciplines.
