Shillong, Aug 22:Kalkame FC, Tura emerged champions of the Spandan District-Level Senior Men’s Football Tournament, defeating Simsanggre United FC, Williamnagar 7-6 on penalties in a thrilling final played yesterday at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Tura.
The final brought the Spandan series in Meghalaya to a close. The tournament was organised by 22 Bn BSF Meghalaya under the Spandan Programme of the Sports Authority of India.
The closing ceremony was graced by Minister of Civil Defence & Home Guard, Berning A. Sangma as chief guest, who congratulated all participating teams. He encouraged young players to pursue football with dedication, discipline and hard work and to make the most of every opportunity to develop their talent.
He also appreciated the efforts of the BSF in promoting sports and youth engagement through the Spandan programme.
Winners, runners-up and outstanding players were felicitated during the ceremony.
