Shillong, Apr 18: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced that it will take to the streets starting April 22 to protest against several government policies.
In a video statement on Saturday, VPP president, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said that the party will hold a series of public meetings all over Khasi-Jaintia Hills over the adamant attitude of the government on various issues.
He highlighted multiple pressing issues the VPP intends to address like employment challenges through the district selection committee (DSC) and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), the difficulties faced by the teachers and environmental concerns, including the Lumpongdeng Island issue.
The protest is scheduled to begin from Motphran, with plans to extend to other parts of the Khasi-Jaintia region.
Basaiawmoit also said the VPP stands with the residents living along the Assam border and is determined not to merely accept government clarifications without proactive measures.
