Expressing concern over the plight of home guards personnel who have not been paid their salary for four months, the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has asked the State government to release the pending salary at the earliest.
The VPP took up the issue with Minister in-charge Home (Civil Defence and Home Guards) Comingone Ymbon yesterday.
In a letter to the minister, VPP general secretary Ricky A J Syngkon stated that the home guards personnel have not received their salary for the past four months.
“This is a matter of utmost callousness and inconsideration on the part of the department concerned for the selfless services rendered by the home guards personnel,” Syngkon said in the letter.
He also urged the minister to ensure the payment of salary is made at the earliest.
Meanwhile, in a separate letter to Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh regarding allotment of medical seats to students, the VPP said that the allotment of medical seats should be made on the basis of merit.
“It is our earnest request that the allotment of medical seats to the students be made on the basis of merit. Furthermore, while finalising the allotment of seats, due consideration should be made, in all fairness, to ensure the meritorious students are duly allotted in the top ranking medical colleges/institutes of the country,” Syngkon said in the letter.
