The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has lambasted the state government for what it said was a muted response to the explosive allegation against Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar that he had previously funded the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
VPP chief and Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit termed the allegations as “very serious” and demanded that Dhar be dropped from the cabinet.
“The government needs to look into this matter with utmost seriousness,” he said.
Basaiawmoit emphasised that the same yardstick should be applied to everyone, including ministers, and that those found guilty should be brought to book. The VPP has already demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe and Dhar’s removal as minister.
The party warned that it would not let the issue die down and would pursue it to its “logical end”.
“We will not keep quiet until justice is served,” Basaiawmoit asserted.
