Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit today said the overwhelming support of the people to his party will one day turn out to be the power of the people.
Addressing a mammoth election meeting at Rambrai, Basaiawmoit thanked the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region for coming out in large numbers to give their support to the VPP.
“This unity of the people will one day make the voice of the people turn into the power of the people,” he said.
Cautioning the people about the use of money power by other political parties, Basaiawmoit also countered Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for daring the VPP to prove the corruption allegations.
“When we said that there is huge corruption in Meghalaya, Tynsong dared us to prove it. Everyone knows that there is huge corruption in Meghalaya. Even Union Home Minister Amit Shah had once said that the MDA government is the most corrupt government. They didn’t dare to ask Shah to prove his allegations because if they do that he may order the CBI to investigate,” Basaiawmoit said.
The VPP chief said that his party was committed to root out corruption and provide clean governance.
“If the people send us to power, we will investigate all acts of corruption and punish the culprits. Even if the deputy chief minister is found involved in corruption, we will not spare him,” Basaiawmoit said.
