Editor,
A letter from the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Laban Circle to the district administration was also circulated to various media portals and newspapers over the willful disrespect and acts by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which is a fringe organisation supported by elements within the BJP and RSS as well and has been in the forefront of communal crisis across the country.
We have witnessed the VHP recent acts is just a tip of the iceberg towards turning this State into a communal one. Meghalaya has always been a secular state where religious communities have always come together to help one another, the Covid pandemic being one example.
We cannot allow fundamentalist elements, be it of any religion, to take centre stage to disrupt peace. The district administration and the State police department seem to have slept and no one knows what action has been taken. Such elements have no place in a society and it must be understood that religious overtones and instigation could drive this State into abyss.
