The state government has identified four to five places where street hawkers and vendors will be given dedicated places to sell their wares and the process of relocation will take another two months or so.
This was stated by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh today. The government has been working in tandem with the Shillong Municipal Board to carry this out.
The process of resolving the hawkers issue is a priority, the minister said, and only the hawkers who can legally prove that they have been vending in that area will be relocated and allowed in the spaces identified.
As the Khyndailad area falls under Zone 1 of the Smart City Project, once it is declared a pedestrian zone, no hawking will be allowed.
