Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday said that one just cannot change a Vice-Chancellor of a university on demand.
Speaking to the media, Majumdar, who is on a visit to the state, was answering to a query on demand for the removal of North Eastern Hill University Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla by the teachers and students of the university.
According to him, NEHU is an autonomous institution and there is a procedure for recruitment of a Vice-Chancellor.
According to Majumdar, the government of India is always in touch with the officials of the university and the issues will be sorted out.
“We are keeping a watch on this and we would like to minimize these things,” he added.
