Shillong, Oct 19: Shillong and other parts of Meghalaya should be feeling the chill of winter approach but the weather has been far warmer than usual for the second half of October.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), its station at Umiam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius yesterday, which is 3.5 degrees above normal. Shillong’s high was 25.2 C, also 3.5 degrees above normal, while Sohra’s maximum recorded temperature was 27.6 C, a whopping 3.8 degrees above normal.
Summer clothing is still seen all over Shillong, with warm jackets and sweaters still rare, though nights are beginning to get a little chilly.
Minimum temperatures in the past 24 hours are not too far from the norm, with Shillong recording 14.5 C (0.7 above normal) and Sohra 15.5 C (0.6 above normal). Only Umiam was significantly warmer – 18.6 C (3.1 above normal).
