Demanding repair of the national highway 6, the Umkiang dorbar shnong threatened to take to the streets and protest if not repaired within a week.
The dorbar in a statement here today lamented that they had taken up the repair issue with the Deputy Commissioner and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) but nothing much has been done.
People of East Jaiñtia Hills district have been constantly raising the demand for repair and restoration of the pot-hole ridden highway. The condition of the road had worsened with the monsoons that have affected traffic movement of the highway which connects Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
Last month, villagers of Narpuh disrupted traffic flow after they halted vehicles passing through the NH 6 at Kuliang, which prompted the NHAI to begin working on the stretch.
It may be mentioned that the NHAI said that work on National Highway-6 to repair the damage caused during the recent monsoon would be completed by December 15.
