The United Democratic Party (UDP) has appealed to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to relax the upper age limit for government jobs in Meghalaya.
In a letter signed by party President Metbah Lyngdoh today, the UDP said that this would address the issue of unemployment in the state as there is a “mismatch between the number of applicants and job vacancies”.
Lyngdoh added that the state’s Education Department has already relaxed the upper age limit to 37 years for Scheduled Tribe members. He also said that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and other North East states have also made such relaxations.
