Two persons were killed after a scooty and a truck collided at Umsning along the national highway in Ri Bhoi district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Pynshailang Wahlang and Banialambha Lyngdoh, both residents of Umnget village.
Both were travelling to Shillong when the incident happened at around 11 pm. According to sources, the scooty they were riding swerved over the median divide and entered the opposite lane and thereafter collided with the truck bearing registration number UP 76K 8582, which was heading towards Assam.
The truck driver fled from the spot after the accident.
Later police reached the spot and recovered the bodies, sent it for post-mortem to Nongpoh CHC.
Police have began investigation and on the lookout for the driver.
