Deuty Chief Minister and state president of the National People’s Party (NPP) Prestone Tynsong said today that the Tura Lok Sabha constituency is not the property of one family.
“In politics or a party it is not the property of a family or Mr. A, B or C,” he said.
According to him, contesting any election be it the MLA, MP, MDC or election to traditional posts, is not the property of the party but of the citizens.
Tynsong said that the NPP accepts the mandate of the people be it in Tura or Shillong. The party lost both Lok Sabha races by massive margins. The loss in Tura was more significant as it had been held by Agatha K Sangma, the sister of Chief Minister Conrad, the last in a decades-long line of MPs from the same family going back to their late father Purno A Sangma.
Tynsong also said that the party will soon have a meeting to review the party’s defeat in both Shillong and Tura seats.
“We will find out where the loopholes are, where the minus points or plus points are and accordingly action will be taken,” he said.
Accepting the mandate of the people, he said that a loss here does not mean the NPP will lose the next poll too.
“We have to accept it (defeat) but not only accept defeat but also diagnose the loss and review the style of functioning in every MLA or MDC constituency,” he said.
