A one day training programme on role of women groups in disaster management was organised by the West Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority, (DDMA) in collaboration with the Seng Longkmie Kynshi Bangla today.
District Disaster Management Officer Jonathan Mawthoh during his address said that women are vital piece of the planning process for disaster risk mitigation and response, enhancing disaster planning with different perspectives that often focus on community needs and vulnerable groups.
He emphasize on the need and importance of such a training programme on disaster management and called upon all stakeholders especially the women groups to join hands together in an effort to collectively participate in the event of a disaster.
Mawthoh further urged all the trainees to disseminate whatever they have learnt to their near and dear ones and to the community at large so that one knows what to do when faced with an emergency situation.
The training touched on Role of Women in Disaster Management, Emergency Method of Search and Rescue and Basic First Aid by resource persons that included W Nonglang, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence & Home Guards Nongstoiñ. Sordar of Kynshi Bangla Alban Syiemlieh also spoke at the training programme.
