The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR-KVK) in Ri-Bhoi successfully conducted a one-day training session on the integrated fish farming system under NICRA TDC equipping local farmers with practical knowledge and resources to enhance their aquaculture practices.
The event held today aimed to bolster the productivity and sustainability of fish farming within the district.
Principal Scientist and Head of KVK, Dr. M Mokidul Islam opened the event by highlighting the centre’s ongoing commitment to implementing government policies designed to support local farmers.
He emphasized the benefits of the KVK’s fingerling distribution program, which provides high-quality fingerlings tailored for pond culture and noted that these fingerlings can be maintained with traditional feeding methods, making them an accessible and cost-effective resource for farmers seeking to improve their yields.
Bankitkupar Mukhim, Subject Matter Specialist in Fishery Science, led an in-depth session on maximizing the benefits of integrated fish farming. His presentation covered strategies for combining various livestock and crops with fisheries to reduce production costs and increase profitability. Additionally, Mukhim provided a detailed guide on pond management practices, including strategies for managing fish health during disease outbreaks.
Around ten local farmers participated in the program. A total of 5,000 high-quality fingerlings were also distributed to the farmers, enabling them to put their newly acquired skills into practice and strengthen the region’s aquaculture industry.
