The Dorbar Shnong of Pahammawleiñ along with the Arphewmer circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) today forced the toll plaza at the site to close over a disagreement about a no-objection certificate (NOC).
The dorbar and pressure group were of the opinion that the toll plaza operators required an NOC from the former to operate. The company contracted to run the toll plaza, however, felt that they had the necessary permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi.
Unwilling to bend to their will, the dorbar and KSU forced the plaza to shut. Police from Byrnihat quickly arrived on the scene, however, and settled the matter, which allowed tolls to be collected from passing vehicles.
However, the dorbar and pressure group continue to insist that the company requires an NOC in order to operate from within Pahammawleiñ’s jurisdiction.
