The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorm/lightning activity with gusty wind reaching 30-40 kmph, heavy rainfall and hail at isolated places in Meghalaya.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the state for the next three days. The alert is valid for today.
A statement from the department said a cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued an advisory following the alert.
The public has been urged to take extra care during this windy season to avoid any incidences especially fire and to get wiring/electricity properly checked.
“Ensure safe keeping of all objects such as lumber piles, loose tin sheets, loose bricks, garbage cans, sign boards, etc which can fly away in strong winds. In case of lightning, switch off all electrical appliances like electric iron, mobile charger, television set etc if the lightning persists,” the DDMA said.
