Ten teachers of schools located in Mawlai were felicitated by the Rotary Club of Orchid City, Shillong for their exemplary service in the field of education.
The ceremony was held at Mary Mount Higher Secondary School, Mawtawar on September 11.
The teachers are Banisha Khongwir and Modalis L Lyngkhoi of Christ Church Secondary School, Alamanda Pathaw and Lamshuwa Syiem of O.M. Roy Memorial HS School, Pusonbha Riwan and Josephine Kharkamni of St. Francis D Assisi Secondary School, Lamonicia Phanbuh and Angelyne Lyngdoh Nonglait of Sunrays Secondary School, Barisha Syiemiong and Virginia Mukhim, both of Umshing Presbyterian Secondary School.
Rotarian Biju BP, from the Rotary Club Trivandrum South attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasised the critical role of teachers not only in educating students but also in reaching out to those who lack access to education.
The event featured performances by students of Mary Mount Higher Secondary School, adding vibrancy to the program. Teachers, school staff, and well-wishers were also present to support and celebrate the contribution of the educators.
Meanwhile, the Rotary Club in Jowai conferred two teachers with the Rotary National Builder Award (RNBA).
Agate C Chullai of QC Springside Higher Secondary School and Dominic Phawa of Marian Hills Higher Secondary School were conferred with the award for their contribution towards the enhancement of quality of education.
The award was presented to the teachers by Assistant Governor Rtn. Pradeep G.Pillai representing zone 13 of RID 3240.
