As part of the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) 2025 campaign, schools across South West Garo Hills came together in a show of solidarity to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco.
The rallies, held throughout the district, saw participation from students and educators, reinforcing their commitment to a tobacco-free Meghalaya.
Observed globally every year on May 31, this year’s WNTD campaign is themed ‘Tobacco! Business of Death’, with a focus on ‘Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products’.
Over the last three years, more than 8,000 schools and over 5 lakh students across the state have actively participated in WNTD activities, including rallies and signature drives.
The 2025 campaign is being implemented throughout April and May in schools and colleges across Meghalaya.
Commending the district-level participation, the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, stated, “Let us join hands in raising awareness through initiatives like WNTD. Through collective behavioral change, we can shape a healthier tomorrow.”
