In a coordinated operation, personnel of the 100th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in West Garo Hills partnered with the state police to thwart an attempt to smuggle 13.5 tonnes of sugar into Bangladesh.
The major smuggling attempt took place yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, the joint forces conducted a targeted operation in the border village of Paulpara, leading to the confiscation of 270 bags of sugar, which weighed a total of 13,500kg and was valued at Rs 5.4 lakh.
The intercepted sugar bags were discovered strategically dumped near an abandoned house, indicating a well-organised operation.
“Seamless collaboration” between the BSF and state police demonstrated “the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curb illicit activities along the border,” a BSF press release said today.
The seized items were promptly handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
