Former CEM of the KHADC Pynshngain N Syiem today said that outside interference into the internal matters of Meghalaya, with regards to the Sweepers Lane controversy, is completely unwelcome as the relocation of the residents of the area in question is for the betterment of the state.
Speaking on the state government’s commitment to relocate the Sweepers Lane settlers, he said, “Relocation can also happen to indigenous Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people if it’s for the betterment of the society and the state as a whole. Thus, I feel outside interference should have no bearing on this matter.”
He denied that the issue was communal in any way, instead being for the “convenience” of the state.
“At the end of the day, if the government and Hima Mylliem have all proofs and documents then there is no hardship in this matter because even a court of law will favour proofs and documents,” he stated.
