The State government has given 15 days to the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) to discuss and finalise other issues and concerns before relocating the 342 settlers from Them Ïewmawlong.
The decision was arrived at a meeting chaired by the deputy chief ministers Sniawbhalang Dhar and Prestone Tynsong held here today wherein representatives of the HPC sought time to sort out “issues.”
Dhar told reporters that the extension was accepted by the government but “there will be no further discussion.” He said the HPC wants to finalise some issues with higher organisations and to take everyone on board.
Dhar said the representatives of the HPC are very happy with the blueprint prepared by the state government.
Asked if there was any interference that could hinder the relocation plan, the Deputy Chief Minister said there are no outside parties involved and that the discussion is strictly between the government and the HPC.
Jagdeep Singh of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, who attended the meeting, declined to provide any details of the issues that need to be sorted but said they would convey their final decision within the timeframe set by the government.
It may be mentioned that several rounds of meeting has been held to find a solution to the relocation issue and even the Meghalaya High Court has directed both the parties to resolve it amicably at the earliest.
The State government has proposed to relocate the residents of Them ÏewMawlong to the Shillong Municipal Board land at Bivar Road here.
